The 99play Journey — From a Small Idea to a Major Platform

The 99play story did not begin in a fancy office — it started at a mamak stall in Kuala Lumpur in 2018. A group of friends, die-hard sports fans with a background in technology, began talking about a shared frustration: the betting platforms available at the time all felt foreign, difficult to use and simply not built with Malaysian players in mind.

Pay with what? Convert to foreign currency. Customer support? In English only. Their intention was clear: build something truly for us, for Malaysians. And that's how 99play was born.

Within the first few months, 99play introduced something that was still relatively new in the local industry — direct deposits and withdrawals in Ringgit Malaysia using payment methods already familiar to everyday Malaysians, such as Maybank2u, CIMB Clicks and, later, Touch 'n Go eWallet and GrabPay as e-wallets gained popularity. The response from Malaysian players was overwhelmingly positive.

In 2019 and 2020, 99play expanded its offering beyond Sports Betting to include live casino, video slots, and poker. At the same time, the platform strengthened its technology infrastructure to ensure a smooth and stable experience even during peak traffic — from weekend EPL matches to late-night Champions League finals.
